Kari Piirainen strengthens Toast Post’s AI and hybrid projects in the new Toastr AI unit, which focuses on the post-production of commercials, series, and films.

“With Kari Piirainen’s extensive production experience and strong expertise, we can create entirely new kinds of productions that combine traditional post-production methods with the best aspects of AI,” says Toast partner Kari Mankinen, who is also an enthusiastic AI producer. “AI already offers very tangible benefits in production, which we could only dream of before. We can now introduce concrete concept proposals early in the process, which can be used throughout the entire production pipeline,” Mankinen adds.

Veteran VFX and animation producer Kari Piirainen is eager to bring new alternatives to Toastr AI alongside traditional production models. “I am very excited about this new opportunity to integrate my VFX and AI expertise into Toastr AI’s production engine. I see great potential in participating in projects where AI can offer a significant advantage over traditional methods,” says Piirainen. “For example, 3D Gaussian Splatting technology allows us to capture virtual locations cost-effectively. Typically, taking a film crew to a location can be expensive or even impossible. Our goal is to enhance the quality of Finnish productions with cost-effective solutions. I look forward to the exciting projects ahead,” Piirainen reflects.
